In the secondary years at The River School pupils are introduced to French as a Modern Foreign Language. They all follow this until they reach the end of Year 9. Thereafter it is an option for those who wish to continue to study French up to GCSE.
We use the Tricolore series of textbooks as the spine of the course and they are prepared for the IGCSE exams with the board Edexcel. The final exam has three components: a Reading and Writing Paper, a Listening Paper, and a 10 minute Speaking Test which is conducted internally and moderated externally.
We like to give the older students an opportunity to go on a French exchange or French trip where possible.
