KS3 Science at the River School follows the National Curriculum for Science, using the AQA KS3 syllabus. We use AQA baseline tests to assess students entering Year 7 and monitor progress against the outcome.
KS4 Science begins in Year 9 at the River School and students follow the AQA Combined Science: Trilogy curriculum. In Year 10 students have the choice to continue with the Trilogy course, to gain two Combined Science GCSEs, or to opt for separate sciences, and gain GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics, awarded by AQA.
We are a heavily practical-based subject and students enjoy working in our newly refurbished science laboratory, with access to the adjoining IT suite. We also have the benefit of the school's beautiful grounds for fieldwork, with a well stocked and mature pond for ecological studies.
Science is a popular and well-resourced subject at the River School and is a great springboard for a career in science, as evidenced by our alumni. Our former pupils go on to a range of science studies and careers, for example medicine (two current University of Cambridge students), engineering, midwifery, plumbing and electrical engineering, research and education.
Why not come to an open day and see us in action?
