Our Vision and Values

Our Vision

Our Christian vision and values are at the core of everything we do, and have done, since the school opened in 1985. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide a cultural environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

Our vision is to provide the sort of school and education that Jesus would have offered if he had started a school in our day. We aim to provide a community where we seek to honour God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to serve and love our fellow human beings as ourselves.

We include and value every individual as significantly made in the image of their Creator. We want to help them develop strong character qualities and gifts, realise their potential and discover their unique role in the world.

The River School offers a great opportunity not to be missed!

Our Values

The school was established in 1985 to develop a specifically Christian ethos as the bedrock to educating children: this can be derived from two key passages in the Bible.

Mark 12 v 30-31

30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. ’There is no commandment greater than these.”

1 Corinthians 13 v 13

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

From these, come the following principles and values:

  • Relationships are the most precious things in life: our relationships with God and with one another.

  • Character is foundational: as a school we believe that if we develop the right character qualities in our students, they will prosper in their relationships and their careers.

  • Love, mutual and unselfish care for each other, is of the highest value.

  • Encouraging faith and confidence in who we are and what God has equipped us to become, gives us hope and purpose in life.

  • Material success is not primary but will often be a consequence of setting the right values and priorities in life.

  • Academic success will be a consequence of right relationships and good character qualities.

  • God values every individual regardless.
